Originally Vinita had 13 streets and 9 avenues. The streets named for prominent Cherokee families such as Vann, Wilson, Scraper, etc. and the avenues named for the districts or counties into which the Cherokee Nation was divided, Sequoyah, Delaware, Canadian etc.
