Route 66 Breezeway

Tourist attraction, Art Exhibit and Rest Area

The Vinita Route 66 Breezeway was designed to be a major feature area as part of an effort to make the downtown area more pedestrian friendly in Vinita, Oklahoma.

What used to be an ally way between historic buildings in Vinita was transformed into an artistic and nostalgic corridor from Rt 66 (Wilson St) towards the including the enhancement of a corridor within the Historic Route 66 Main Street area.

The city of Vinita, Oklahoma, received a $25,000 AARP Community Challenge Grant to help improve its downtown, including the Route 66 corridor. Vinita faced stiff competition with about 1600 towns applying but grants only awarded to 129 communities.

We in the Vinita community love Route 66 and the nostalgia and Americana that goes with it. Vinita has always been a part of that but the Route 66 Breezeway gives us an additional way to celebrate and honor this legendary heritage of being part of the "Mother Road". It is also serving as a key location for several community events including the Vinita FFA event and fundraiser, "Steak under the Stars".
